5 Exciting Opportunities To Help Make-A-Wish Iowa This Spring

If you’d like to attend a gala or party for Make-A-Wish Iowa, you have four great options to choose from this April and May. Or if you’d rather get out and enjoy the spring weather to help grant wishes, lace up your running shoes for the Cedar Valley Walk For Wishes. No matter what you choose, you can have a blast this spring, all while supporting a wonderful cause.

April 10: Uncork A Wish

Looking for a night of live music, wine and beer tastings, and a fun auction? Get your tickets now for the Eastern Corridor event Uncork A Wish on April 10. Now in its 8th year, Uncork A Wish is on a new night, at a new location, and features a new easy check-out system for auction items. What hasn’t changed is that you will help grant wishes for Iowa kids when you attend!

The event takes place at the DoubleTree by Hilton in Cedar Rapids (350 1st Ave NE) starting at 6 p.m. Guests will enjoy hors d’oeuvres, wine and beer tastings, a live and silent auction, and live music from The George Jazz Trio.

Get your tickets now at $50 per person or get them at the door April 10 for $55. Tables of eight are also available for $360. Go to the event website or contact Tammy Tronvold at tammy@eells-tronvold.com to get your tickets today!

April 11: Wishland Speedway Gala

If you’re in the Council Bluffs area, come out to the Wishland Speedway (Mid-America Center, One Arena Way) on April 11. The Southwest Iowa Gala will feature a live and silent auction, track food, and entertainment with local Wish Kids. The pre-race party starts at 6 p.m., followed by the event at 7. For tickets and sponsorship information, please contact Deb Wirth at swiowa@iowa.wish.org.

April 11: Clinton County Gala

If you’re closer to the Clinton area, or if a speedway isn’t your idea of fun, you can still attend a gala on April 11. Taking place at Grand Vista (2141 16th St NW) in Clinton, Iowa, this year’s Clinton County Gala starts at 5:30 p.m. The theme is “Jamaica My Wish” and the gala will feature a live and silent auction as well as a dance and guest speakers. Get your ticket now for $45. After April 2, the price goes up to $55, so now is the perfect time to register! Contact Joni McDonald at 563-212-8991 to get your ticket.

April 18: Cedar Valley Walk For Wishes

Now is a great time to start breaking in your walking or running shoes for the Cedar Valley Walk For Wishes on April 18 in Cedar Falls’ Gateway Park. This fun-filled morning has something for everyone to enjoy. If you’re a walker, the 5k walk or 1 mile walk are for you. Runners have the option of a 5k run.

If you don’t register early, come out to Gateway Park at 7:30 a.m. for race day registration and late packet pick-up. At 9 a.m., registration closes and all participants can gather for the pep rally with a local Wish Family. To get you even more pumped up, a Zumba warmup starts at 9:15, followed by the race kickoff at 9:30. After the race, live music will begin at 9:45, followed by the awards ceremony at 10:15.

Although there is no registration fee, everyone is encouraged to raise funds to benefit Make-A-Wish. Plus, if you raise $30 or more, you will receive a Dri-Fit event t-shirt. To guarantee your shirt size, please sign up and make your donation by April 3. Head to the event website to get registered and learn more.

May 2: Des Moines Gala

Come out to the Prairie Meadows Racetrack and Casino (1 Prairie Meadows Drive) in Altoona on May 2 for the Des Moines Hats, Horses and Hope Gala. The gala is a great opportunity to support Make-A-Wish Iowa, while also enjoying wine and beer tastings, dinner, and a great auction. The evening starts at 6:30 p.m., and dinner will be served at 7. Afterwards, guests will enjoy a program featuring local Wish Kids and a live auction. Finally, the evening wraps up with a DJ and dancing. Go to the event website to purchase your ticket, or contact Natalie Brecht at nbrecht@iowa.wish.org.
