5 Opportunities To Walk Or Tee Up For Wishes In Illinois

May 11, 2016

Men golfingMay and June are filled with opportunities to help Make-A-Wish Illinois at a fun event. If you're looking to walk or golf to help grant wishes, you have five different events to choose from. The Edwardsville Walk For Wishes is May 14 and the Moline Walk For Wishes is June 4. Golfers can take part in the Clarendon Hills Golf Classic or the Racks Tap Golf Outing June 11, or the Charity Golf Classic on June 17. All of these great events benefit Make-A-Wish Illinois and help them grant more wishes all over the state!

Edwardsville Walk For Wishes

On May 14, come out to the Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville for a family fun walk and timed 5k. The event takes place at the university's Korte Stadium, with registration beginning at 7:30 a.m. The 5k race kicks off at 9, followed by the fun walk shortly afterwards. The 5k run offers more competitive participants the chance to test their running time, and the fun walk gives you a more relaxed stroll through the campus. Everyone is encouraged to come dressed as their favorite superhero to make the day extra fun.

Registration is $30 for adult runners, $25 for adult walkers, $15 for students (ages 18-22) and $10 for kids under 18. Wish Kids and their families can walk for free. You can register on the event website now, or contact Emily Seifert at seifert@illinois.wish.org for more information.

Moline Walk For Wishes

If you're closer to the Moline area, don't miss the Walk For Wishes on June 4. The walk takes place at the Old River Drive, along the Ben Butterworth Parkway. Just like the Edwardsville walk, costumes are encouraged. Registration starts at 8 a.m., followed by the walk at 9:30. Following the walk, stick around for entertainment, refreshments and prizes.

Registration is free, but fundraising is highly encouraged. Anyone who raises more than $100 will receive a Walk For Wishes t-shirt. You can register online or contact Emily Seifert at seifert@illinois.wish.org for more event details.

Racks Tap Golf Outing

Also on June 11 is the Racks Tap Golf Outing. This tournament takes place at the Stony Creek Golf Course in Oak Lawn starting at 1 p.m. After the day of golf, everyone can meet back at the Racks Tap bar (10533 Southwest Hwy) in Worth for prizes, raffles, a dunk tank, food and drinks at 4 p.m. Contact Jean Burns at jmb26_61@yahoo.com for more event details.

Charity Golf Classic

The last Make-A-Wish golf event this month is the Charity Golf Classic on June 17. The tournament takes place at the Glendale Lakes Golf Club with a shotgun start at 2 p.m. Golfers can register for $150 per person. The entry fee includes a day of golf, followed by dinner.
