Walk Or Race To Help Grant Wishes In San Diego

April 14, 2016

Make-A-Wish San Diego is holding two events this spring that you won't want to miss: a Walk For Wishes on April 23 and the Amazing Race for Children's Wishes on May 14. Both events are fun and active ways to get outside and help raise funds to grant wishes.

Walk For Wishes

On April 23, you can join Make-A-Wish San Diego at the San Diego Harbor for a 3-mile walk. The route is wheelchair-friendly and includes beautiful views of the harbor, Seaport Village, the Coronado Bay Bridge and downtown San Diego. In addition to the walk, the event will also have breakfast, music, activities and entertainment that the whole family will love.

The walk begins at Embarcadero Marina Park and parking is available at the San Diego Convention Center (111 W. Harbor Drive). Carpooling is encouraged, as parking costs $15 per car. On-site registration goes from 7 to 8 a.m., with the walk beginning at 8.

There are no fees to participate, but everyone is encouraged help Make-A-Wish San Diego meet their $250,000 fundraising goal. Individuals can aim for great fundraising incentives such as a Walk For Wishes, a reusable Make-A-Wish shopping bag, an aluminum water bottle, or a pair of Legoland/Sea Life Aquarium Park Hopper Tickets.

You can help make the event a success by creating your own fundraising campaign, donating to a walk participant, or sponsoring the event. Several sponsorships are still available ranging from $5,000 to $40,000.

The Amazing Race For Children's Wishes

If you've always wanted to try an "Amazing Race" style challenge after watching the TV show, now's your chance. Three local yacht clubs have come together to host The Amazing Race for Children's Wishes on May 14. The event will start at the Coronado Cays Yacht Club (30 N. Caribe Cay Blvd.) in Coronado.

The friendly competition will involve boating, biking and a variety of other team challenges. Teams can be formed online, but you don't have to compete to be involved. Spectators can enjoy the race from the shore and join in the post-race celebration.

Last year's Amazing Race for Children's Wishes raised more than $100,000. This year the goal is set even higher at $125,000. Learn how you can attend and help make the event a success on the event website.

Donate A Car, Boat Or Other Vehicle To Grant Wishes
