Early April in Massachusetts doesn’t just mean the Boston Marathon and the start of the Red Sox season. Make-A-Wish Massachusetts and Rhode Island gives you a chance to watch two of the biggest college basketball games of the season while helping to raise the necessary funds to grant wishes for children with critical illnesses.

Swish Night, An Evening Of Wishes and College Basketball, is an opportunity to watch the national college basketball semifinals on Saturday night, April 2, at the Longmeadow Country Club (400 Shaker Road in Longmeadow). You can watch the games on big-screen televisions, sample different food stations and take part in an auction that helps celebrate the joy of children’s wishes provided by Make-A-Wish Massachusetts and Rhode Island. The event runs from 7-11 p.m. and the attire is country club casual – collared shirts and no jeans.

Whether you put a few bucks into a pool, make educated picks or just choose teams based on uniform colors or nicknames, Swish Night gives you an opportunity to watch the game and cheer on your team. Or at least cheer on a successful bracket. Not only can you get together with friends, you can help raise money for Make-A-Wish Massachusetts and Rhode Island at the same time.

Last year’s event raised more than $125,000 – enough to fund 16 wishes. Wish recipient Karissa, 17, shared her wish to be a model in New York City, which was granted last year, and brought the experience to life for guests through video. Karissa’s mother, Kimberly, was the evening’s featured speaker and shared her daughter’s journey with Hodgkin’s disease and the profound joy Karissa’s wish provided.
