Steelman Triathlon Helps Grant Wishes In Philadelphia-Area
For people in the northern part of the United States, summer means it’s time to get outdoors and get fit. One of the favorite ways for many people to get in shape is by taking part in a triathlon – and what’s not to like? Triathlons combine swimming, biking and running, and the Steelman Triathlon at Nockamixon State Park allows you to try at a variety of distances. More importantly, you can help Make-A-Wish Philadelphia and Susquehanna Valley.
Up to 1,000 racers will take part in this event on August 10 starting at 7 a.m. There are four different events that racers can take part in:
- Sprint Race: 860-yard swim, 14.4-mile bike, 3.1-mile run
- Olympic Race: 0.9-mile swim, 24.6-mile bike, 6.2-mile run
- Sprint Aquabike 860-yard swim, 14.4-mile bike
- Olympic Aquabike 0.9-mile swim, 24.6 mile bike
The swim takes place on the pristine Lake Nockamixon, the bike course is a four-lane highway closed to traffic and the run is shaded and flat on paved trail. The course is perfect whether you are taking part in your first race or aiming for a personal record.
Most importantly the race will benefit Make-A-Wish Philadelphia and Susquehanna Valley, which grants the wishes of children with critical illnesses. The first wish given from this event was from the 2006 Steelman Triathlon – $8,000 to grant a wish for Tim to go to Atlantis and swim with the dolphins.
When you register, you get: Official Steelman Gear, including a commemorative finisher’s towel, Zorrel performance training shirt and a plethora of sponsor goodies and raffle items; chip timing; “Championship” post-race feast; and a professional awards presentation.
Register for the event online; you can team up in the triathlon and take it on as part of a relay, or complete it individually. Entry fees for the event are:
- Sprint Individual: $90
- Sprint Relay: $180
- Sprint AquaBike : $80
- Olympic Individual: $110
- Olympic Relay: $210
- Olympic AquaBike: $100
