One of the best parts of summer is the abundance of outdoor music festivals going on. If you’re looking to go to one last festival before summer is over, Pickin’ for Wishes is a fun bluegrass festival held for a great cause. Back for its second year, Pickin’ for Wishes benefits Make-A-Wish Greater Pennsylvania and West Virginia. On Aug. 23, be sure to come out to Cresson Sportsman’s (1224 St. Joseph Street, Loretto, PA 15940) from noon to 8:30 p.m. for a day of great music, food, basket raffles, craft vendors and camping.
Great Music And Camping
This year’s musical guests include Hillbilly Gypsies, Brush Creek, Mama Corn, Mac Martin and the Dixie Travelers, Roustabouts and Allegheny Drifters. If you are a fan of rough camping (i.e. no showers or hookups), why not stay for the whole weekend? Campers are welcome to show up as early as Thursday, Aug. 21 starting at 9:30 a.m. Camping is free, but reservations must be made first by calling 814-764-5920. Attendees should bring their own chairs, blankets or canopies to the festival. Although there is food at the festival, drinks are BYOB and no glass is allowed.
Music isn’t the only attraction of the day. For those who want more to do throughout the day, there are kids’ activities, craft vendors and a fishing dam on the grounds. With all that, there’s something for everyone to enjoy!
Tickets for the festival are $10 in advance or $15 at the “door.” Children 12 and under are free with an adult (children must be supervised). Additionally, there is free parking at the festival. Advance tickets are available at the B&S Beverage in Patton or the Millers Hunting & Fishing Shop in Cresson. You can also get tickets online at the Pickin’ for Wishes website.
The event goes on rain or shine and no refunds will be available. For more event information, send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org or call 814-674-5920 or 814-472-8303. The whole musical lineup and additional event information can be found on the Pickin’ for Wishes website.
Grant Wishes For Local Kids
Even if you can’t attend this great event, you can still support it by making a general donation on the ticketing page of the event website. If you’d rather make a donation in a different way and you have a vehicle that you no longer want or need, consider donating your vehicle to Wheels For Wishes, benefiting Make-A-Wish Greater Pennsylvania and West Virginia. Wheels For Wishes will turn your vehicle into a wish by either recycling or auctioning it, with the proceeds from its sale going to Make-A-Wish Greater Pennsylvania and West Virginia.
When you donate, you receive free pick-up or towing of your vehicle as well as a great tax deduction and the knowledge that your vehicle is going towards a great cause! To make a donation simply call 1-877-431-9474 or fill out an online donation form. Either method will only take a moment of your time, but will make a huge difference for a child in your community who is facing a critical illness.
