There is more than 1,100 miles of coastline in California, from sandy beaches to rocky cliffs. Whether you are out to catch some waves on your surfboard or play in the sand, the beaches along the California coastline are national treasures. But they don’t get to be that way without the help of everyone.

Keeping the beaches clean is what the organization Heal The Bay is all about. Heal The Bay uses a mix of community action programs and advocacy efforts to work with local, state and Federal governments and regulatory agencies.

The third Saturday of each month brings Nothin’ But Sand, which offers volunteers the ability to come out and volunteer with friends and family at a monthly beach cleanup. Here are the upcoming Nothin’ But Sand opportunities:

  • April 20, Santa Monica Pier
  • May 18, Will Rogers State Beach
  • June 15, Venice Pier

The hours for each Nothin’ But Sand cleanup day is 10 a.m.-noon, and the events are open to the public. If you have more than 10 volunteers in your group, please contact Heal The Bay to make sure there are enough supplies for your group. Bags and gloves will be provided. However, to help cut down on the number of supplies we use for our cleanups, please bring your own reusable garden gloves and bucket or reuse a bag from home.

Other Ways To Help Heal The Bay

Supplies for the cleanups don’t come cheap. If you can’t make a clean-up, small donations can help future efforts. Donate $5 and you can provide cleanup supplies and help Heal The Bay offer educational training for two volunteers to spend an hour and a half removing cigarette butts, bags and other trash from the beach. Or, give $10 to double your impact and fund four cleanup volunteers.

More Ways To Help Children

Certainly keeping the beaches clean is a way to help children who want to enjoy the splendor that is the beaches of Southern California. But there is another way to help Los Angeles kids. To benefit Make-A-Wish of Greater Los Angeles, you can donate a car, truck, SUV, RV, boat or motorcycle to Wheels For Wishes and you will help turn your unwanted vehicle into a wish for a local child. Granting wishes is easy and Wheels For Wishes takes care of all the work for you.

If you have a vehicle to donate to Wheels For Wishes, benefiting Make-A-Wish of Greater Los Angeles, please give us a call at 1-877-431-9474 or fill out our online vehicle donation form. Either way is easy and will help to grant a wish for a local child!
