If you’re from Erie, Pa., Morgantown, W.Va., or anywhere else in the greater Pennsylvania or West Virginia area, you can help your local Make-A-Wish this August and September. With cooler temperatures on the way, it’s the perfect time to get outside and get moving. Come out to the 3rd Annual Jax Stone Walk/Run event Aug. 28 in Erie or the Walk For Wishes in Morgantown Sept. 24. Both events benefit Make-A-Wish Greater Pennsylvania and West Virginia, helping them grant more wishes.
Jax Stone Walk And Run
No matter your age or endurance level, you can find a way to participate in the 3rd Annual Jax Stone Walk/Run. The event takes place Sunday, Aug. 28 at Presque Isle State Park in Erie. The adults’ divisions begin at 8:30 a.m. and the kids’ run starts at 9:30.
Sign up for the 10k run, 5k run, 5k walk or 1-mile kids’ run to get involved. Registration is $30 for the 10k, $25 for the 5k walk or run and $15 for the kids’ run. All of the event proceeds are donated to Make-A-Wish. In the past two years, the event has raised enough to grant the wishes of four children! Help grant even more wishes by registering for the event.
In every division, participants should register before Aug. 19 to receive a t-shirt. All online registration ends at 11:59 p.m. Aug. 27. Whether or not you sign up in time to receive an event t-shirt, all participants will receive a commemorative race medal.
Walk For Wishes
If you’re closer to the Morgantown, W. Va. area, don’t miss the Walk For Wishes taking place Sept. 24. Walk For Wishes is being held at the Hazel Ruby Mcquain Amphitheater (799 East Brockway Ave.) in Morgantown. On-site registration begins at 9 a.m. followed by the walk kicking off at 10. You can also register online ahead of time as an individual or by starting or joining a team.
Registration is free, but fundraising is highly encouraged! Not only does fundraising make the event a success, it also comes with a lot of fun perks for you. Incentives include a Walk For Wishes t-shirt when you raise $100, a Make-A-Wish bottle for hot or cold drinks when you raise $250, a canvas boat tote for raising $500 and a zip-up windbreaker when you reach $1,000.
