Since starting in 1985, Make-A-Wish Illinois has granted over 11,000 wishes to children facing critical illnesses. This year, they hope to grant an amazing 700 wishes, a goal you can help them reach this September and October by attending one of three great upcoming events. Sept. 14 is the Chicago Walk & Run for Wishes event, Sept. 27 is the Champaign Walk & Run for Wishes event, and Oct. 4 is the Shooting for Wishes event in Hainesville.

With 1,200 Illinois families each year learning that their child has been diagnosed with a critical illness, your support is crucial in helping Make-A-Wish Illinois meet their long-term goal of reaching all eligible children in the state. Register today for one of these great events!

Walk & Run For Wishes In Chicago

On Sept. 14 at Montrose Harbor, this event kicks off with registration at 8 a.m., followed by the 5k fun walk and timed run at 9:30. Food and refreshments will be available starting at 9:30 until the event ends at 11. At this family-friendly event you can dress up as your favorite super hero or character, compete to get the fastest race time, and even bring your dog along for the fun.

Prizes will be awarded for the Top Individual Fundraiser, Top Team Captain Fundraiser, Best Adult costume, Best Youth costume, and even the Best Dog costume. For the 5k race, there is an award for the Best Men’s Time and the Best Women’s Time.

All of the money raised through registration and sponsorships will go to Make-A-Wish Illinois. General registration is $30 per person, registration for children 10 and under is $10 per person, and children 2 and under are free. Registration on the day of the event is $40 per person. Wish Families can participate free of charge. If you can’t make it to the event but want to participate, you can still help out and raise funds by registering as a Virtual Walker. Individuals who raise $6,000 or more have the opportunity to adopt the wish of a specific child in Illinois. In return, those individuals will get a commemorative frame that shares the child’s medical condition and wish experience. Walk & Run For Wishes In Champaign

On Sept. 27, come down to Hessel Park in Champaign for a day of fun. Registration starts at 8 a.m., followed by the 5k Fun Walk and Run at 9:30. Just like the Chicago Walk & Run for Wishes, you can break out your favorite costume for this walk and run too! Prizes will be awarded for best adult and youth costumes. To register, the General Registration fee is $25 per person, $15 per student ages 18-22, and $15 per child 12 and under. Infants and toddlers are free. Wish Families can register for free too! If you can’t make it to the event, you can still support the event by registering as a virtual walker. After Sept. 1, an additional $5 will be added to each registration fee, so why not register today to support this great event!

At the Champaign Walk & Run for Wishes event, there are awards for the Top Individual Fundraiser and the Top Team Captain Fundraiser. Individuals who raise $6,000 or more will have the special honor of adopting the wish of a specific child in Illinois. Shooting For Wishes In Hainesville

Come out to the Northbrook Sports Club (160 Sports Club Dr.) on Oct. 3 for a fun day benefiting Make-A-Wish Illinois. Wish-granter Lenny Dacanay hopes to raise $4,000 this year to help Make-A-Wish grant another great wish. Last year’s event brought in over $7,000, enough to fully fund one great wish! This event is perfect for avid hunters who enjoy supporting a great cause. The format of the event is sporting clays, consisting of four-man squads and eight stations with six-to-eight birds per station.
