Exploring Texas Gulf Coast on a Budget

Posted in Donate Car News, Wednesday, April 18, 2012

The Texas Coast is a beautiful stretch of over 3,300 miles of shoreline with endless activities to enjoy with the entire family. With so much coastland, there are several things to enjoy at little or no cost. Surrounding the beaches are great neighborhoods filled with restaurants, shops, and culture. Here are some of our favorite spots to spend our days without spending too much from our wallets.

1. Houston Museum District

Besides the dozens of museums located in the area ranging from the Houston National Museum, to the Houston Zoo, to The John C. Freeman Weather Museum, the Museum District offers a great landscape to enjoy the Houston outdoors. Described as the Central Park of Houston, stop by for an afternoon stroll through Bell Park. Take in the architecture of the museums and fountains and the rich vegetation of the landscapes of the district. Without even breaking a dime to go into the museums (which we recommend you do if you have time), there is plenty to explore just outside along the paths.

2. Sea Turtle, Inc.

For a unique learning experience visit Sea Turtle, Inc., an organization founded in 1977 to educate the public about sea turtles. Here you can interact with live sea turtles of all sizes and assist in the conservation efforts for all marine turtle species. Since it is a non-profit, it is by donation only so you can contribute as little or as much as you feel the experience is worth.

Fees: donation only

Address: 6617 Padre Blvd
South Padre Island, TX 78597

3. The Art Car Museum

This private institution is a contemporary art museum with an emphasis on cars and vehicles. The museum offers a unique cultural perspective on art and helps share its perspective on the influence the automobile has had on American culture. On display are not only paintings and photographs, but several custom cars, trucks, and vans. If you think you may be planning on donating a vehicle, this is a great museum for inspiration on your next car or truck!
