Ditch Single-Use Bags For San Diego’s Day Without A Bag
The holidays are a perfect time to give back to the environment and be as eco-friendly as possible. You’re giving gifts to the people in your life, so why not give back to the place you live in too?
Find Your Reusable Bag
Thursday, December 20th marks the Third-Annual San Diego “Day Without A Bag.” The third Thursday in December is a day where San Diego residents are asked to ditch their single-use, plastic and paper bags, and instead use reusable bags during their holiday shopping. While many customers shop at several different stores, they usually go home with a handful of single-use shopping bags. Who needs all those excess plastic and paper bags taking up space at home, anyway?
If you don’t have a reusable bag, it’s easy to get one just about anywhere you go today. Reusable bags will be given away at numerous locations throughout San Diego County. Not only are you giving a gift to the environment, but you are getting a reusable bag for free, which will serve you in many more ways than a single-use bag would. Plus, reusable bags are much more stylish!
By raising awareness on this special day, the event hopes to educate shoppers throughout San Diego County to adopt better shopping habits during both the holiday season and the coming year. More than 1.7 billion plastic bags are used throughout the San Diego Region each year. On average, each person uses about 500 single-use bags per year!
Keep Your Community Clean
Even though it is said that plastic bags are recycled, they are very rarely recycled. They blow out of garbage bins or are carried away by birds and end up polluting the environment. In a community so close to the ocean, it’s important to participate in ways that will preserve and protect the world we live in.
To take part in San Diego’s “Day Without A Bag,” start by picking up your reusable bag or bring one that you have at home. Bring your reusable bag(s) to grocery and all retail stores so you can make a difference while also making others aware of the issue. Don’t just partake today, but pledge to only use your reusable bags, or to use them as much as possible.
The more ways we can reduce, reuse, and recycle, the better! There are many ways to go green over the holidays, and you can start by participating in San Diego’s “Day Without A Bag.” Buy reusable bags as holiday gifts so you can spread the word. If you’re looking to go even further over the holidays, consider giving the ultimate green gift—the gift of car donation to charity.
