Do you like softball? How about motorcycles, or steaks? No matter what you like to do in the summer, you can do it to help Make-A-Wish Iowa. There are four events in August that you can take part in to help raise money for Make-A-Wish Iowa to grant wishes of children with critical illnesses.
14th Annual Grady Paul Larson Memorial Softball Tournament
The Grady Paul Larson Memorial Softball Tournament is held in memory of former wish child, Grady Paul Larson. Each year, the GPL Foundation sponsors the wish of a local child through Make-A-Wish Iowa. The sponsored family members are honorary guests at the tournament, and the child receives an MVP trophy during the closing ceremonies. The tournament includes a silent auction and guest speaker.
The event is held at Noelridge Park in Cedar Rapids (4900 Council Street NE) starting at 8 a.m. on August 2. There is a $25 registration fee to hold a spot in the tournament for your team, and all teams are urged to raise money above and beyond the registration fee to fund the wish. Your company, organization or church may be a good source of support.
For more information, go to the event’s website.
Wish Kid Reunion
On August 8, the 13th Annual All-Star Wish Kid reunion will take place at the Kiwanis Miracle League Baseball Park in Des Moines (529 SW 5th St). This fun event is open to wish families past and present, as well as the Make-A-Wish Iowa volunteers that help make everything happen.
The event features lunch and a quick softball game before heading over to Principal Park to watch the Iowa Cubs take on Omaha. For more information, contact Make-A-Wish Iowa at (515) 334-2636.
Harleys & Hotrods
The Cedar Falls Motorsports Park (7227 Waverly Rd.) hosts the annual Harleys & Hot Rods event to benefit Make-A-Wish Iowa at 10 a.m. on August 22. This annual event includes a classic car and motorcycle cruise followed by live music, food, races and an auction.
Quaker Steak & Lube in Council Bluffs (3320 Mid America Dr.) is hosting its annual motorcycle Wish Ride to raise money for Make-A-Wish Iowa. The event is August 22 and more details will be available soon, so check the event website for more.
