With fall weather coming, September and October are great times of the year to get outside and support a meaningful cause. If you live in Iowa, you’ve got three opportunities to come out to a Walk For Wishes this fall. Council Bluffs, Dubuque and Davenport will be hosting Walk For Wishes events this year. Learn how you can participate and have a great time helping Make-A-Wish!
Walk For Wishes In Council Bluffs Sept. 20
The Council Bluffs walk takes place at the Iowa Western Community College (2700 College Road) beginning with the kids’ run at 9:30 a.m. and the adults’ run at 10 a.m. Day-of registration and check-in starts at 8:30. Events like Walk For Wishes allow you to be a hero for a wish kid, but you can also look the part by coming dressed as your favorite superhero. Costumes are encouraged to help make the day even more fun.
Participants can choose from a 5K run, or a 1- or 3-mile walk on a paved course around the college’s campus. Kids can take part in the 1K kids’ fun run. Registration is free for kids and walkers, but there is a $25 fee for 5K runners. 5K runners automatically receive a Walk For Wishes t-shirt, but if you’re walking or want one for the kids too, all you need is a $25 donation to Make-A-Wish. Registration fees and donations are due by Sept. 8 in order to guarantee your shirt size.
Walk For Wishes In Dubuque Sept. 26
The Dubuque walk will take place at the Heritage Trail at Dubuque’s Heritage Park. The fun begins at 9 a.m. with a Wish Family presentation and a warmup session for the participants. The 5K walk begins at 9:30, followed by the 5K run at 9:45. Awards will be given following the walk for the top participants and fundraisers. Just like the Council Bluffs walk, don’t forget to come dressed as your favorite hero for the Dubuque walk!
You can register for either the 5K walk or 5K run to take part. There is no registration fee, but a $30 donation is required in order to get a Walk For Wishes t-shirt. Please register before Sept. 8 in order to guarantee your shirt size. If you can’t attend but want to support the walk, learn more about sponsorships and event donations here.
Walk For Wishes In Davenport Oct. 3
Come out to the Modern Woodmen Park (209 S Gaines St.) in Davenport for a day of fun and granting wishes. The day starts with a 10K run kicking off at 10 a.m., followed by the 5K run at 10:30 and the 1-mile walk at 10:45. If you didn’t get a chance to be a superhero at one of the other Iowa walks yet, you have a chance to be one – and dress like one – for the Davenport walk.
Walkers and runners 13 and older can register for $30. Registration for ages 5-12 is $20. Wish Kids and kids under 4 can participate for free! If you don’t register ahead of time, registration on the day of the event is available for $40.
If running isn’t your thing, you can still participate this year by Sleeping In For Wishes instead. Registration is $25 and includes a Sleeping In For Wishes t-shirt. You can register, start a team, sign up to volunteer, or make a general donation to Walk For Wishes on the event’s website. For more event information, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
