The Make-A-Wish San Diego Tuna Challenge is in its 26th year, and it’s not only the largest tuna-fishing tournament in the United States, but it’s one of the largest fundraisers for Make-A-Wish San Diego. This year’s event is Aug. 28-30 and again takes place at the Silver Gate Yacht Club (2091 Shelter Island Drive, San Diego). Since 1991 the event has raised more than $3.2 million and when you participate, you will help Make-A-Wish San Diego grant wishes for local children facing life-threatening medical conditions.
Register Now To Claim Your Spot
Registration for the event is now open. Fees are $90 for adults and $30 for kids 15 and under. The event starts with a captains meeting on Friday, Aug. 28 at 6 p.m. On Aug. 29, the lines go into the water starting at 5 a.m.
All eligible fish must be weighed in from the boat of entry at either the San Diego Marlin Club or the Dana Landing Market and Fuel Dock in Mission Bay no later than 9:00 a.m. on Sunday, prior to the start of the awards banquet. Last year, 336 anglers fished on 76 boats and teams weighed in 288 yellowfin, 14 Dorado, 11 yellowtail and eight bluefin. There were two marlin caught and released.
Banquet Concludes The Event
An awards banquet starts at 10 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 30. The public is invited to support the event’s culmination banquet at the Silver Gate Yacht Club. The banquet will include raffles, auctions, live entertainment, tournament awards and lunch.
Banquet tickets for this event are only $15 per person. Raffle tickets are $2 each. There will also be progressive raffles with exceptional prizes at the $100, $200, $300 and $500 levels. There are special books of raffle tickets that will make it so much easier to keep track of your raffle ticket numbers.
Your Boat Can Make Wishes Come True
Even if you don’t fish, there are still ways for you to support Make-A-Wish San Diego such as volunteering at the event or making a donation. If you have questions about the event, you can send an e-mail to email@example.com.
Whether your boat will be out on the water for the tournament or it’s sitting unused in the driveway, it can help Make-A-Wish San Diego bring hope, strength and joy to children in San Diego. How can an old, unused boat make a difference? You can give it new life when you donate it to Wheels For Wishes, benefiting Make-A-Wish San Diego! While doing so, you can help children in San Diego, Escondido, Carlsbad, Chula Vista and Oceanside, and throughout San Diego and Imperial counties. Your vehicle donation can help grant wishes to children with a life-threatening medical condition.
When you donate your boat, car, RV, Jet Ski or motorcycle to Wheels For Wishes, we turn it into a wish for a child in your community by giving the proceeds to Make-A-Wish. If you never use your boat, turn it into so much more than a boat by calling 1-877-431-9474 or filling out an easy online vehicle donation form.
