This Fourth of July weekend, July 4-6, attend the Raiders Firecracker Tournament in Columbus, Ohio, to help support our partner Make-A-Wish Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana. Each year, the tournament proceeds go towards granting the wish of an honoree Wish Kid. More than thirty different teams will be participating in the tournament. Although all the age brackets are filled, you can still help support the teams in their goal of helping other kids by buying a Wish Star, which all of the boys are selling in the days leading up to the tournament.

Playing For A Purpose

Since its first year in 2010, the tournament has grown from its original 20 teams to now include more than 30. In the competition, all of the players are working toward a common goal: Granting more wishes for local kids who are battling critical illnesses. Everyone involved will play a part in accomplishing this goal.

In previous years, the tournament has helped raise funds that went towards granting the wishes of six different local kids. With one-to-two Wish Kids being helped each year, this tournament is making a wonderful impact in the lives of this Ohio community. Because of that positive impact, the tournament’s opening ceremony is an emotional part of the day, as people share their stories of how the tournament has touched their lives.

One person whose life has been touched by this tournament is Colton, last year’s honoree Wish Kid. Colton wished to travel to Hawaii with his family where he could experience his passion of history by visiting Pearl Harbor and other historical places. You can read his story and others on the NCS Raiders’ website.

A Benefit For Everyone

Not only does the tournament benefit the children whose wishes are granted, it also helps the players. One of the coaches involved made a point that the tournament teaches the players value of selflessness rather than selfishness.

Continue The Spirit Of Selflessness

Since beginning in 1983, Make-A-Wish Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana has granted over 12,000 wishes to children facing critical illnesses. If you can’t attend the tournament, you can still support it by purchasing a Wish Star from one of the players.

Another way you can help Make-A-Wish is to consider making a vehicle donation to Wheels For Wishes, benefiting Make-A-Wish Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana. Donating is easy and only takes a moment of your time, but the benefits will last a lifetime. Knowing that you helped grant a wish for a local child will be a positive feeling that won’t go away. Simply call 1-877-431-9474 or fill out an online vehicle donation form. The proceeds from your donation will help grant a wish that brings a renewed sense of hope, strength, and joy to a child in your community.
